This is a part of "Milk comes from cows an other such nonsense-a practical guide to homesteading in the now! ©SRGD 2010
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
2 T white vinegar or home made vinegar will work also
1 T brown sugar
1 t molasses, I use black strap from a local farm, because it is unsulfured.
1 t garlic powder
1 onion powder
1/4 t allspice, I skip this..,
1 t salt, I use sea salt
1 T corn syrup
1 1/4 cups water
Mix together all ingredients in a saucepan over low heat; simmer gently until
you get the consistency of ketchup, 45 minutes to 1 hour,
I promise it will feel like forever, but it will be worth it.
Now taste it...awhh that was all worth it....
Allow to cool.
Pour into container with a lid. Store in refrigerator.
Yield: 1 1/2 cups ketchup.
You can double this recipe well and if you really wanted to you could can
it for long term storage.
